Abu Dhabi Special Olympic World Summer Games 2019 medalists felicitated

A group of children with special needs who had brought accolades to the country at the recently held Special Olympic World Summer Games 2019 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) was felicitated by the State Minister of Defence Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene during a function held at the Ministry on Monday (25 March).

The Special Olympics World Summer Games is a multi-sport event for athletes with intellectual disabilities. It was held this time in Abu Dhabi, UAE from March 14 to 21 (2019). About 7500 participants from 190 nations had attended the Games this year.

Beating tough competition, the Sri Lankan athletes managed to win two (2) Gold and four (4) Silver medals.

Praising the efforts of these children with special needs in the international sporting arena, State Minister Wijewardene presented them with financial incentives during the ceremony. He also said that these youngsters had brought glory to the country and that measures will be taken to provide them with better facilities and training in the future.

State Ministry officials and the trainers of the children were also present at the occasion.
