Special Pola for retired service personnel entrepreneurs

A special 'Pola" (Trade Fair) was held at the Ministry premises for the benefit of retired service personnel entrepreneurs to market their agro based products, today (26 March). The fair had been organized by the State Ministry of Defence under the agricultural self- employment project for retired service personnel of the State Ministry.

The fair was declared open by the Secretary to the State Ministry of Defence, Mr. NKGK Nemmewatta.

A number of stalls offering a range of products including vegetables, fruits, indigenous rice, flour and pulses, bees honey, horticultural products and etc. produced by retired service personnel were for sale at affordable prices.

Such trade fairs provide a good avenue to these retired service personnel to market their produce while at the same time provide consumers good quality products at reasonable prices.

The agricultural self- employment project for retired service personnel, implemented by the State Ministry of Defence, is a multipurpose project that creates opportunity for additional source of income to supplement the retirement benefits of service veterans and also retain their expertise to fill national manpower demands. They also contribute towards national development. It also helps to generate new employment opportunities as well.
