Authorities to avert spread of rainwater-mixed furnace oil from Sapugaskanda Refinery
June 05, 2021Following the notice of separator tanks containing furnace oil at the Sapugaskanda Refinery were overflowed due to the ingress of rain water, the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) arrived at the scene last evening evening (June 4) and led a joint operation to mitigate the hazard posing to the environment.
With a view to contain the likely flow of furnace oil-mixed water into the Kelani river through the Pattivila canal, steps were taken to place a floating boom, the SLN said.
