Flood warnings withdrawn
June 10, 2021The flood warnings issued by the Hydrology and Disaster Management Division of the Irrigation Department from June 3 to 6 are hereby withdrawn, said the Irrigation Department today (June 10).
They said it was withdrawn in absence of significant rainfall from anywhere in the Island, during the last two hours, and the high river water levels reported in rivers had dropped considerably.
Indicating that the risk of floods in early- warned rivers is now receding, the Irrigation Department added, the remaining flood water in low-lying areas in these river basins will also be reduced within next few days.
The Disaster Management Centre said as a result of torrential rains formed by the monsoon, over 200,000 persons were affected and 20 deaths were reported during the past week.
