Religious ceremony held at National Media Centre in view of
March 22, 2019A special religious programme was held at the National Media Centre in Colombo in view of the "Tiripitakabhivandana" week, today (22nd March).
The programme was held at the Centre's auditorium with the presence of all staff members. Ven. Prof. Medagoda Abhayatissa Thero conducting a special "Dhamma" sermon spoke on the origin and importance of the 'Tripitaka'.
Later the venerable Thero was presented with 'Atapirikara' (Eightfold Requisites) by the Chairman of the center.
Chairperson, Chief Executive Officer, senior officials, and members of the staff were also present at the occasion.
The 'Tripitakabhivandana' Week was declared to mark the occasion of initiating the process in order to declare the Theravada Tripitaka, the sacred scripture of Buddhists, as a World Heritage under a concept of President Maithripala Sirisena.
National ceremony to announce Sri Lanka's proposal to the UNESCO to declare the Theravada Tripitaka as a World Heritage is scheduled to be held under the patronage of the Maha Sangha and with the participation of President Maithripala Sirisena at the Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic) tomorrow (23 March).
