SLAF puts finishing touches on Mihintale Stupa
June 25, 2021The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) has completed the project taken over to colourwash the sacred Mihintale Maha Seya yesterday (24).
Following a request made through the Defence Ministry, the colour washing project of the Sacred Mihintale Maha Stupa and adjacent temple buildings commenced on April 29 on the instructions of SLAF Commander Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, the SLAF said.
Further, the SLAF said troops inaugurated the project following religious rituals, held to invoke blessings for this kind of mammoth task.
The SLAF Commander Pathirana, while paying homage to Mihintale Raja Maha Vihara Chief Incumbent Ven. Dr. Walawahengunuwewe Dhammarathana thero, conveyed the completion of the project.
According to the SLAF, the noble task was attended with the support of SLAF Civil Engineering Directorate, utilizing the troops of Bases and Stations of the Northern Air Command and Regimental Special Forces.
