Army repairs more vehicles and saves millions for the country
June 30, 2021Sri Lanka Army added completely refurbished 12 more Land Rover model vehicles to the Army fleet yesterday (June 29) after symbolically handing them to the Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander, Gen Shavendra Silva at the Army Headquarters.
Troops of the Sri Lanka Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME), repaired an unserviceable Army vehicle fleet saving a fair chunk of foreign exchange as per the guidelines of the Army Chief, the Army said.
Presently, the condemned vehicles are being overhauled, repaired and repainted before they are re-introduced for Army use. The project has been in operation in all provincial SLEME workshops, inclusive of Katubedda Base Workshop, Uda Walawe, Anuradhapura, Kilinochchi, Jaffna and a few other workshops, the Army sources confirmed.
SLEME Commandant and Director of Directorate of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (DEME), Maj. Gen. Indu Samarakoon and a few Senior Officers were also present at the occasion.
