ICG assists SLCG by providing machinery spares
July 01, 2021Deputy High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Mr. Vinod Jacob, visited Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) Rear Headquarters for the handing over ceremony to mark the completion of delivery of machinery spares of SLCG ship Suraksha on 29 June, the SLCG said.
SLCG Director General Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake received the Deputy High Commissioner and the mark of respect was also accorded.
Vikram class Offshore Patrol Vessel Ex-Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Varuna was donated by the Government of India to Sri Lanka in 2017 and commissioned in SLCG as SLCGS Suraksha, the SLCG also said.
According to SLCG sources, since the donation, the ICG has provided machinery spares and technical assistance to make the ship operational.
Further, the recent stock of machinery spares was transferred to Sri Lanka in June 2021.
Mementos were also exchanged to mark the significance of the event.
