CARAT-21 enhances maritime interoperability
July 01, 2021The Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training Exercise (CARAT)-2021 held with the participation of Sri Lanka Navy (SLN), Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), United States (US) 7th Fleet and Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) concluded successfully yesterday (Jun 30).
This year’s exercise was conducted from 24 to 30 June off the Eastern Coast of Sri Lanka.
The closing ceremony was held virtually at the Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee, yesterday, under the auspices of Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral YN Jayarathne, the SLN said.
Delivering the closing remarks, the Deputy Chief of Staff expressed his gratitude to all participants while thanking the supportive bodies for their unwavering commitment and dedication extended for the success of the exercise.
This exercise strengthens the maritime interconnectedness and mutual understanding between navies as well as strong maritime partnerships among partner countries, the SLN added.
Mementos were also exchanged to mark the significance of the event.
According to the SLN, the proceedings of the closing ceremony were held in compliance with COVID-19 protocols for the prevention of the spread of the pandemic.
