Secretary chairs meeting on providing security to religious processions

The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence General SHS Kottegoda (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc chaired a meeting with the Chief Prelates and lay custodians of important temples, today (27 June 2019). The meeting was held to discuss security arrangements to annual ‘Peraheras’ (Cultural processions) conducted by the temples.

A range of important issues were taken up for discussion with regard to providing security to organize the historical annual processions which are an important part of the local religious and cultural traditions. A large number of both local and foreign people flock to see these colorful processions from all over the world.

In the aftermath of the Easter Sunday bombings, special arrangements are to be put in place this year to ensure the complete safety and security of the people and the locations. The Secretary assured those present of his fullest cooperation in this regard.

Chief Prelates of the Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya, Mahiyangana Rajamaha Viharaya, Bellanvila Rajamaha Viharaya and Navagamuwa Paththini Devalaya and Basnayaka Nilames and lay custodians of important temples including the Dalada Maligawa, Chief of National Intelligence, Military Liaison Officer, senior tri forces officers were also present at the meeting.
