MoU signed to revive Para Sportsmanship
July 17, 2021Ministry of Sports has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sports Development Department and the National Paralympic Committee of the National Sports Council (NSC), recently under ‘High Performance’ Sports Development Programme’ to revive Para Games and develop sports skills among Para Sportsmen.
The Sports Development Programme also aims at producing the best for the forthcoming Asian Para Games 2022 and future international tournaments.
Hon Minister of Youth and Sports Namal Rajapaksa and Gen. Shavendra Silva, Chairman of National Sports Selection Committee, Member of National Sports Council, Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander, Amal Edirisuriya, Director General, Sports Development Department and Lt. Col. L.R.T.D Herath (Retd), President, National Paralympic Committee signed the MoU at the NSC office, Colombo the Army said.
Hon Minister Namal Rajapaksa has allocated Rs 47 m in raising the standards of the sport of Para sportsmen while targeting forthcoming Para Games, Paralympics and other international and local tournaments, the Army further said.
This year 9 sportsmen including seven from the Army, one from Navy and one from the civil sector are scheduled to participate in Para Games - 2021 in Japan, the Army confirmed.
