SLN nabs over 107 kilos of Cannabis in Vettalakeni
July 23, 2021Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) nabbed 107 kilos and 840 grams of cannabis along with a suspect during a foot patrol conducted in the beach area of Kadeikadu, Vettalakeni, yesterday (July 22).
The SLN’s Northern Command, during a foot patrol in the Kadeikadu beach area apprehended a suspect who had attempted to escape the scene with 16 sacks of Kerala cannabis, the SLN said.
Subsequently, after interrogating the suspect, the SLN managed to recover 24 more packs of cannabis hidden near a house in the area, the SLN also said.
The SLN also reveals that the street value of the seized stock of cannabis is believed to be approx. Rs. 32 million.
According to the sources, the suspect held during the operation was a resident of Mulliyan area, aged 33 and was handed over to the Marudankeni Police along with the haul of cannabis for onward legal proceedings.
The entire raid has been conducted adhering to the healthcare guidelines, the news also confirmed.
