SLN busts Rs. 65 million worth cannabis in Jaffna
July 27, 2021Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) during a special raid nabbed 216 kilos and 750 grams of Kerala cannabis worth of Rs. 65 million along with three suspects and a dinghy at the seas off Kankesanthurai, Jaffna recently.
The operation was carried out by the SLN’s Northern Command and the haul of cannabis was found packed in six gunny sacks, the Navy said.
The SLN sources further said that 19 kilos of dried turmeric were also seized and the street value of the seized stock of cannabis is believed to be over Rs. 65 million.
Suspects were identified as residents of Walalai in Kankasanthurai, from 22 to 34 years of age.
They were handed over to the Kankasanthurai Police along with the cannabis, turmeric and the dinghy seized, for onward legal action.
The operation which conforms to the guidelines issued by the Defence Ministry was carried out adhering to the healthcare procedures, the news also confirmed.
