‘Vadatharaki’ resumes shuttle-run after repairs by Navy
July 27, 2021Following major repairs carried out by the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN), the Passenger Vessel ‘Vadatharaki’ resumed its shuttle services between Punguduthivu and Delft Islands recently.
The SLN said the passage between two islands was in put off mode following non-working condition of the passenger vessel ‘Vadatharaki’ which was deployed by the Road Development Authority (RDA).
In a response to RDA’s request, the SLN undertook repairs of the redundant vessel in March 2021.
Thereafter, the vessel on the blink was towed all the way from Kankesanthurai harbour to the Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee for repairs, the SLN said.
The SLN completed the repairs in an expedited process during a short span and prepared the ship for its duty.
Naval technical staffers worked throughout amidst the pandemic situation to make it functioning.
The resumption of its services for the islanders came under the high praise of the regional government officials and the general public in Jaffna and Delft Island, the SLN said.
The vessel was dedicatedly deployed to transport passengers and their cargo between Kurikadduwan Jetty on Punguduthivu and Delft Island in Jaffna.
A naval crew operated the passenger vessel which was deployed by the RDA as a welfare measure for locals, the SLN added.
