SLN’s school development at the crowning touch
August 02, 2021Amenities enhanced at the Roman Catholic College, Mandaitivu Island under the patronage of the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) were vested in the College authorities yesterday (Aug 1).
Accordingly, the Navy Commander Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne declared open several school facilities, enhanced by the SLN yesterday during a visit to Mandaitivu Island.
Apart from the enhanced facilities, the SLN has provided ten computers with computer tables and chairs for the school computer laboratory and sports gear as well.
Meanwhile, the SLN’s Seva Vanitha Unit has provided school supplies for an assembly of students during the occasion, the SLN said.
According the to SLN sources, a new two-storied building and a renovated classroom structure were among the developments funded by the SLN using its manpower.
Highlighting the school development project in progress under the purview of each Naval Command, the SLN said, this initiative was broached to usher a new hope for students learning in schools with less facilities.
In keeping with the SLN’s 70th Anniversary, the SLN is conducting a project to develop eight underprivileged schools, in a bid to support the education of students in remote schools.
The event was held adhering to COVID-19 protocols, the SLN confirmed.
Jaffna Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Justin Gnanapragasam, Priest of Catholic Church in Mandaitivu Island, Commander Northern Naval Area, Secretary to the Provincial Education, Youth, Sports and Cultural Affairs, Zonal Director Islands of the Ministry of Education and Senior Naval Officers were present at the event.
