President marks maiden visit to new Army Headquarters

His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa arrived at the Army Headquarters situated in Defence Headquarters Complex, Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte yesterday (Aug 3).

The President on his maiden visit to new Army Headquarters premises was received by the Chief of Defence Staff and the Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva and was accorded a colourful Presidential Guard of Honour.

Defence Ministry Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) was also present at the President’s first visit to the Defence Headquarters Complex.

The launching of the book titled ‘Towards a Dazzling Future; the Air Mobile Brigade 2021-2026’ was held during the President’s visit and the first copy of the book was also presented to President Rajapaksa during the session after Airmobile Brigade’s future plans being explained by Maj. Gen. Nishantha Manage. The electronic version of the book was also launched by the President during the session. 

President Rajapaksa also declared open the ‘Operations Room’ at the new Army Headquarters at the invitation of the Army Commander.

A number of site visits within the Army Headquarters premises were made including the Army Museum during the tour.

A special memento was presented to the President to mark the occasion by the Army Commander following a group photograph taken at the venue.

Secretary to the President Dr. P.B. Jayasundera, Chief Adviser to the President Lalith Weeratunga and Senior Army officials were also present during the visit.
