Army offered financial support to ex-combatants for self-employments
August 08, 2021Sri Lanka Army offered cash gifts to 15 former LTTE combatants who received Presidential pardon, to initiate their own self-employment and continue their peaceful lives as law-abiding citizens of the country, yesterday (Aug 07) at Jetwing Hotel in Jaffna.
Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID 19 Outbreak, Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva attended the event as the Chief Guest, the Army sources said.
The beneficiaries who were the rehabilitated former combatants were donated Rs. 100, 000/= to start of self-income generating projects with the patronage of a social activist and philanthropist Mr. Vamadevan Thyagendran, the Army said.
Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna Maj. Gen. Jagath Kodithuwakku, District Secretary for Jaffna Mr. Kanapathi Pillai Maheshan and a few Senior Officers of Tri Forces and Other Ranks were also present at the occasion held in compliance to strict health guidelines and safety measures.
