SLCG nabs over 5300 kilos of smuggled dried turmeric
August 09, 2021The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) ship Suraksha nabbed 5372 kilos of dried turmeric while attempting to be smuggled from India onboard an Indian dhow off Chilaw point recently.
Five Indian nationals were taken into custody along with 143 dried turmeric filled sacks and one Indian dhow during the raid, the SLCG said.
The seized consignment of turmeric has been kept under the custody of the Sri Lanka Navy until it's produced for onward legal proceedings, the SLCG also said.
The apprehended five Indian nationals along with their dhow were repatriated to Indian waters considering the prevailing COVID pandemic.
The entire raid was conducted adhering to the healthcare guidelines, the news also confirmed.
