New Zealand High Commissioner meets Defence Secretary
August 11, 2021New Zealand High Commissioner (HC) to Sri Lanka His Excellency Michael Edward Appleton, paid a courtesy call on the Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) today (August 11) at the Defence Ministry at the Defence Headquarters Complex, Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte.
Following a warm reception, the Sri Lankan Defence Secretary held discussions with HC Appleton on matters of bilateral importance and mutual relevance.
Highlighting the geostrategic importance of both the countries as Island Nations in the Indo-Pacific region and the possible benefits which could gain, HC Appleton assured further strengthening the existing ties between the two countries.
Meanwhile, HC Appleton commended the military contribution to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in Sri Lanka.
The Defence Ministry’s Military Liaison Officer Brig. Dinesh Nanayakkara was also present at the discussion.
The event was held in keeping with the healthcare procedures to contain the spread of COVID-19.
