Army road mending work from Ayagama to Kalawana
August 18, 2021The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) has undertaken a 16.5 kilometre long road mending assignment from Ayagama to Kalawana under the government's 100,000 km alternative rural road development project.
The Army said 12 Field Engineer Regiment of Sri Lanka Engineers has assumed the task under the directives of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva.
Estimated at a cost of Rs. 209 million and commenced in August 2020, the project in two phases is now in full swing under the guidelines issued by the Road Development Authority, the SLA sources said.
The dilapidated road patch with potholes which caused immense transport difficulties to the general public until the President's ‘Gama Samaga Pilisandarak’ in the district sought the assistance of the Army for renovation and repair, the SLA also said.
