Army-initiated Mobile Vaccination to Cover Entire Jaffna Peninsula
August 22, 2021Giving a further push to the COVID - 19 vaccination drive, a mobile vaccination drive in Jaffna was launched for elderly people above 60 years of age, sick, handicapped and feeble sections in Jaffna peninsula by 4 Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps troops on Thursday (19) as part of the Army-initiated vaccination drive.
This mobile vaccination service is the brainchild of General Shavendra Silva, Head of National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army. It was initiated in the Jaffna peninsula on the directions of the Commander Security Forces-Jaffna and District Coordinator of COVID-19 Control and Prevention in Jaffna, Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku.
A simple ceremony held in front of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital on Thursday (19) marked its inauguration and the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, adhering to health formalities. It will continue to be operational throughout the peninsula within next few days.
Dr. S.Sribavanandarajah, Deputy Director of Jaffna Teaching Hospital addressed the simple ceremony and commended the utmost commitment and dedication of the Security Forces during the peak of the COVID -19 pandemic and during all other needs of Jaffna people.
General Officer Commanding, 51 Division, Commanders of 511, 513 and 515 Brigades, Senior Officers, Government Officials and Medical Staff of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital were also present during the inaugural ceremony.
