KDU Hospital commences Cochlear Implantation
August 24, 2021The ENT Department of the Kotelawala Defence University Hospital (KDUH) commenced the Cochlear Implantation program recently.
Accordingly, they have completed the first Cochlear Implantation surgery for a one year and nine months old kid who is natively deaf.
According to the KDU sources, the Health Ministry had provided the Cochlear Implant device for the purpose and KDUH implanted the same without charge.
Cochlear implantation surgery helps to restore hearing in patients, who suffer from profound hearing loss due to various reasons.
Head of the ENT Department, Consultant ENT surgeon KDUH Dr. Vasanthika S Thuduvage highlighted that the commencement of Cochlear implantation program is a milestone achievement in the department of ENT- KDUH, the KDU said.
Consultant ENT Surgeon of Borella Lady Ridgeway Hospital Dr. ADKSN Yasawardena and Consultant ENT Surgeon of Apeksha Hospital Maharagama Dr. Daminda Dumigoarachchi extended their helping hands to make the program a success.
The university sources also said it was inaugurated under the guidance of KDU’s Vice Chancellor Maj. Gen. Milinda Peiris, Executive Director Dr. Jayan Mendis, Director Medical Service Brigadier (Dr.) PS Thilakarathne and Director Administration Col. EMGHJB Dehideniya with the support of other military and civil staffers.
