SL military to receive 300,000 Sinopharm vaccine from
People's Republic of China

Following a request made by the Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd.) to the Chinese Defence Minister General Wei Fenghe, during his official visit to Sri Lanka in April this year, the Ministry of National Defence of the People's Republic of China (PRC) will donate 300,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine on Saturday (28 Aug).
Gen. Gunaratne pointed out this necessity during the bilateral discussion held between two officials, to strengthen Sri Lankan Armed Forces since they are performing a dedicated role in combating the coronavirus spread, at the forefront.
Accordingly, maimed military personnel, war widows/dependents and ex-servicemen are also expected to be vaccinated in the same process.
The consignment of Sinopharm vaccine is arriving in the island in a SriLankan Airlines flight on Saturday as a Military Assistance to the Sri Lankan Armed Forces from PRC.
The Sri Lankan Defence Secretary will officially receive the consignment of vaccine from the Chinese Embassy Officials in Sri Lanka, at the Bandaranaike International Airport, on its arrival.
