August 26, 2021

Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) nabbed 139 kilos and 930 grams of cannabis worth Rs. 41 million along with two suspects and a dinghy at the seas off Manalkadu in Point Pedro today (Aug 26).

The SLN’s Northern Naval Command during a special raid carried out in northern seas seized the suspicious dinghy while carrying the haul of Kerala cannabis.

According to the Navy, successive searches in the same sea area led to the recovery of more sacks filled with cannabis.

The SLN suspects that the smugglers might have retrieved the stock of cannabis into the dinghy at the International Maritime Boundary Line intending to smuggle them into the island.

Sources reveal that the suspects held during this operation were residents of Point Pedro, aged 22 and 26.

The persons taken into custody with the haul of cannabis and the dinghy were handed over to the Point Pedro Police for onward legal proceedings.

The entire raid was conducted adhering to the healthcare guidelines, the news also confirmed.
