Donation of blood saves lives
September 01, 2021Sri Lanka Army (SLA) conducted a blood donation programme at the Panagoda Sri Bodhirajaramaya in a bid to fulfill the blood requirements of key hospitals yesterday (Aug 31).
Accordingly, the troops operating under the Security Force Headquarters-West conducted the programme to support the smooth functioning of the healthcare in hospitals.
According to the SLA, over 270 Army personnel volunteered to donate their blood during the programme and Medical staffers of the Narahenpita National Blood Bank, Regional Blood Banks in Ragama and Kalutara including a few Army's healthcare personnel were involved in the programme.
Commander Security Forces - West Maj. Gen. Sujeewa Senerath Yapa in cooperation with the senior officers organized the programme on the directives of Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva following a request of the National Thalassemia Centre, the Army further said.
