Defence Secretary meets the Secretary of the Russian Security Council
September 02, 2021Sri Lankan Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) met the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolay Platonovich Patrushev during an official visit to Russia, recently (Aug 26).
A bilateral discussion on the areas of mutual interest including the security and military technical cooperation was held during the session.
Both high officials also reaffirmed their intention to further strengthen the existing ties between two countries through the Security Council of Russia and counterpart state agencies in Sri Lanka.
Further, the Sri Lankan Defence Secretary Gen. Gunaratne recalling the long existing ties between the peoples and the governments of the two countries thanked the Russian Government for its unwavering support extended to Sri Lanka in the global platform and also in the context of bilateral relations.
The Sri Lankan defence delegation included the Sri Lankan Defence Ministry’s Military Liaison Officer Brig. Dinesh Nanayakkara and Military Assistant to the Sri Lankan Defence Secretary Col. Wijayanath Jayaweera.
The Counsellor Defence at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Russia Group Captain Dhammika Dias was also present at the meeting.
