Secretary visits Kandy to ensure maximum security for Esala Perahera

Secretary Defence General SHS Kottegoda (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP VSV usp ndu said that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure maximum security to the Esala Perahera which will commence, tomorrow. The Secretary made these remarks during a visit to Kandy to inspect security preparations and meet with security forces and police authorities involved in security operations for the Kandy Esala Perahera, today (04th Sunday August 2019).

Speaking to media at the Dalada Maligawa, the Secretary Defence ensured that authorities have taken all possible measures to strengthen security for the successful completion of the great religious and cultural pageant. Authorities have put in place special security arrangements for the Perahera this year.

Artists performing in the Perahera are issued with special identity cards. All city buildings and identity of residents in the perahera route have already been verified.

A special operations room has been set up to coordinate all security measures undertaken by the Tri Forces, police, STF and Civil Security Department personnel.

Secretary Defence had discussions with security forces, police and Dalada Maligawa officials regarding the security arrangements during his visit. He made it a point to personally inquire on all security details from the authorities. He also issued necessary directives to the officials to ensure maximum security to the people and the locations till the successful completion of the ten day long Perahera.

Acting IG, senior security forces and police officers, Diyawadana Nilame of the Dalada Maligawa and lay custodians of Devalas were also present at the occasion.
