SLCG hosts international training
September 15, 2021Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) announced the commencement of the initial training module on Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) for West African countries (Ghana and Nigeria) recently at the SLCG’s Advanced Training Centre (ATC) Mirissa, Sri Lanka.
The Global Maritime Crime Programme of the United Nation Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will facilitate the programme, the SLCG said.
Accordingly, UNODC sponsored VBSS training programmes commenced on Sep 13 for officers of friendly foreign Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA).
Two separate courses of ‘VBSS’ and ‘VBSS Instructor Course’ have been scheduled to conduct and SLCG’s VBSS instructors will assist UNODC trainers to conduct the course at the ATC, they also said.
The SLCG has scheduled the closing ceremony on Oct 08 with the participation of SLCG and UNODC senior officials along with diplomats.
SLCG sources also said the course comprised 23 law enforcement officers representing both countries. Accordingly, the Nigerian Police Force, Marine Custom, Marine Unit, Maritime Authority and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and Ghanaian Maritime Authority and Marine Police are included.
The SLCG considers this training as a pilot program of such nature furthering the advanced training capabilities of SLCG in collaboration with international agencies.
