SLN nabs another dried turmeric haul with two suspects
September 17, 2021The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) seized a large haul of dried turmeric of over 1,162 kilos attempted to be smuggled into the island, during a special raid conducted in Ma Oya estuary, Negombo yesterday (Sep 16).
Two suspects involved in the racket and two dinghies were also taken into the custody during the raid.
The operation was conducted in compliance with COVID-19 protocols in force for the prevention of pandemic transmission, the SLN confirmed.
The SLN sources said the 37-year old suspects who were residents of Negombo, along with the items seized and dinghies were handed over to the Katunayake Customs Preventive Office for onward legal proceedings.
