Army Troops donated blood for Thalassemia patients
September 18, 2021Sri Lanka Army troops with a view of saving precious lives donated blood to replenish blood stocks for Thalassemia patients in Kurunegala District recently.
The blood donation campaign was organized by the troops at Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) at Boyagane, Kurunegala under the directions of Colonel of the Regiment of the VIR and Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu Maj. Gen. Sisira Pilapitiya, the Army said.
A total of 160 troops volunteered to donate blood during this campaign while adhering to health guidelines, the Army also said.
The medical staff at Kurunegala Teaching Hospital's blood bank and the National Thalassemia Centre at Kurunegala were present at the location to facilitate the programme.
