Sandahiru Stupa will be vested in devotees in November, 2021 - Defence Secretary

Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) denoting the culmination of Sandahiru Stupa construction process said this sacred Stupa would be vested in the public in November this year.

“This mammoth project in Anuradhapura was inaugurated under the notion of the fifth Executive President and the present Prime Minister Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2010 and it was continued under the direct supervision of the former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa who is the President of Sri Lanka”, he also recalled.

Gen. Gunaratne expressed these views arriving at the Sandahiru Stupa premises today (Sep 25) and he further inspected the final touches of Stupa work which is in progress in a rapid phase.

Meanwhile, he also visited the construction area of Museum, Dolos Mahe Pahana (the lamp which lights throughout the 12 months of the year), Shrine Hall, House of Relic and also reviewed the balance work of devotees’ Vehicle Park, Sacred Stone-Paved Precincts (Salapathala Maluwa) including its water cooling system and landscaping arrangements.

Construction process at the location is being attended in keeping with the stipulated healthcare guidelines to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Plans are afoot to place the ‘Crest-Gem’ and the ‘Sacred Pinnacle’ at the pointing tip of the Stupa, following the culmination of final arrangements.

Two revered articles are now placed at Kalutara Bodhiya premises.

Renowned artists who will be involved in the final activities, the Defence Ministry officials, regional senior military coordinators and project officers joined the visiting high official during the session.
