Cannabis worth Rs. 27 million nabbed from Mannar
September 26, 2021Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) seized over 91 kilos of Cannabis during two special operations conducted in the seas off Walaipadu, Mannar and the adjacent beach area on Sep 24.
Reportedly, the haul was found abandoned at the Walaipadu beach by smugglers to evade naval operations in the area.
The cannabis of over four kilos with two boats were seized and further investigations opened an avenue to arrest another haul of over 86 kilos from the Walaipadu beach area, the SLN said.
Accordingly, a total of 91 kilos and 351 grams of Kerala cannabis attempted to be smuggled into the island were seized during this naval operation.
The SLN sources said the street value of cannabis held is believed to be over Rs. 27 million.
The operations were carried out conforming to COVID-19 protocols, the SLN also confirmed.
