Navy installs water treatment plant at Welioya school
June 24, 2019Continuing its commitment to serve the needs of the people in areas prone to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), the Sri Lanka Navy has yet again installed a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant at Paranagama Weva Vidyalaya in Welioya on Sunday (23 June 2019). According to Navy media, this water treatment plant, installed by the Navy with its own funds for the benefit of the school children was declared open by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva.
These RO water treatment plants are developed and installed by the Research and Development Unit of the Navy. So far the Navy has installed more than 600 such water treatment plants around the country. Navy's RO plant development project commenced in December 2015, initially funded by Naval personnel, the project is now backed by state and private sector entities including the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease.
Thousands of families have already gained access to safe drinking water, especially in areas where a high prevalence of CKD is reported through the Navy's far reaching project.
