Planting a tree also plants a hope
September 29, 2021Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in association with the Department of Coast Conservation planted over 200 mangrove saplings in Nadathivu Lagoon in Muthur recently.
Troops attached to the 15th Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) under the 223 Brigade launched the project with the assistance of Muthur Coastal Resource Management Office.
Commanding Officer of 15 SLLI, Lt. Col. Ravindra Rajaguru, Aruna Gamage representing the Department of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management Office, military officers and other ranks planted the saplings during the session.
Meanwhile, the troops of the 1 Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (1 SLAGSC) have commenced a 10-acre coconut sapling plantation project at Ella, Kantale in consultation with the Nilaveli Seed Farm Nursery recently.
The SLA sources said the Coconut Cultivation Board supported the project in a bid to increase the regional coconut cultivation.
Senior military officers including the 1SLAGSC officers attended the project, the SLA added.
