KDU Southern Campus gets new Auditorium

Adding yet another feature to the expanding Southern Campus of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), a new auditorium was declared open on Sunday (04 August 2019). According to Navy media, the new facility was declared open by Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva.

The construction of the auditorium was carried out by utilizing the expertise, skill and technology of the Naval Civil Engineering branch. The new facility comes with new equipment and seating capacity to cater to a large audience.

KDU Vice Chancellor, Air Vice Marshal Sagara Kotakadeniya, Dean of the Southern Campus, Tri Forces officers and a large number of undergrads were also present at the opening occasion.

General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) in Ratmalana was initially established as the “General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy” by the Parliamentary Act No 68 of 1981 and subsequently it was elevated to University status by the amendment Act No 27 of 1988, thereby empowering it to award Bachelors’ and Postgraduate Degrees in Defence Studies. The KDU is the premier defence university in the country.

The Southern Campus of the KDU, situated in Sevanagala, Sooriyawewa was ceremonially declared open by President Maithripala Sirisena on 05th May, 2015.
