Army commences project to rear ornamental fish
October 28, 2021Giving a fillip to the Government’s fresh water fish industry, Sri Lanka Army has ventured into rearing ‘Thilapiya’ fingerlings and ornamental fish at the Kandakadu Army farm, Army media reports.
The ambitious project has been launched by the Corps of Agriculture and Livestock of the Army’s Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock and has seen 15,000 fingerlings and 10,000 golden carp ornamental fish being released to the tanks at the farm.
The project, jointly managed in close consultation with the National Aquaculture Development Authority of Sri Lanka is aimed at earning foreign exchange through rearing ornamental fish for export, the reports say.
The inaugural launching was attended by Army officers including Lieutenant Colonel D.L.C.N Muthuthanthri, Commanding officer, 3 (V) Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture & Livestock.
