Poppy Flower pinned on Defence Secretary
November 01, 2021Maj. Gen. Upul Perera (Retd), President of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen's Association (SLESA), pinned a Poppy Flower on the Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne at the Ministry, today (Nov 01).
The Poppy Flower was pinned on the Defence Secretary when the SLESA delegation met him at his office this afternoon.
A copy of the Association’s magazine was also presented to the Defence Secretary during the occasion.
Later Gen. Gunaratne had a cordial discussion with the delegation.
This year will be the 77th Remembrance Day commemoration in Sri Lanka.
Poppy Day is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries since the end of the First World War to commemorate the armed forces personnel who had sacrificed their lives in the Great War.
The SLESA delegation comprised of officials including its General Secretary Lt Col Ajith Siyambalapitiya, Lt Col Deepal Subasinghe, Maj Shanthilal Kankanamge and several others.
