President Commissions Navy's 4th Fast Attack Squadron

President Maithripala Sirisena commissioned the 4th Fast Attack Squadron of the Sri Lanka Navy as the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla during a Commissioning Ceremony held at the Trincomalee Naval Base, last evening (22 June 2019). Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, General SHS Kottegoda (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc was also present at the occasion.
The President was received by the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva upon his arrival at the Navy Dockyard in Trincomalee.
The newly commissioned Flotilla was also awarded the prestigious President's Colours at the same occasion. It is the highest honor a military establishment is bestowed with.
As the Navy's premier offensive power, the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla has been a dominant force operating in the country's littorals by means of its fast, agile and powerful Fast Attack Craft (FACs). The Flotilla played an important role during the terrorist war to counter sea tiger threats.
Religious dignitaries, Governor of the Northern Province, senior Naval officers and a large number of Naval personnel were also present at the occasion.
