MIR Troops Rehearse 30 mm Canon Firing at Kalpitiya
November 10, 2021The Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) troops conducted its Field Firing sessions during 27 - 28 October 2021 at Kalpitiya Air Force Field Firing Range after absence of 7 years.
The MIR troops due to non-availability of a suitable field firing range, deprived of their opportunities to sustain their firing training with 30 mm cannons as those rounds can travel more than 13 km from the firing position.
The field firing of the MIR was planned under 3 successive stages and the first firing session took place at Kalpitiya Air Force Field Firing Range with the participation of 15 Officers and 55 Other Ranks of the Regiment.
The event was conducted by the Senior Instructor of the Mechanized Infantry Training Centre, Major Emilson Hapukotuwa and the team of qualified instructors under the supervision of the Commandant of the Mechanized Infantry Training Centre, Colonel Koshina Peiris on the directions of the Commander of the Mechanized Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Kavinda Balsooriya, facilitated the smooth training programme.
Director General General Staff of Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel of the Regiment of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment, Major General Priyanka Fernando extended necessary guidelines for the training sessions, in which sophisticated military equipment, including Infantry Combat Vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carriers were also used during the training.
