SLN embarks on Kinniya ferry accident rescue mission
November 23, 2021Following a tragic ferry accident reported in Kinniya today morning (Nov 23) Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) has embarked on a rescue mission to locate the missing persons.
The tragic incident has occurred at the Kurinchankerny Bridge in Kinniya, Trincomalee.
Navy has deployed eight rescue teams comprising of Rapid Action Boat Squadron, Special Boat Squadron, Marines and Divers.
According to SLN sources, operations are underway in search of missing persons since today morning.
People in the locality had used this ill fated ferry as the constructions work on the existing Kurinchankerny Bridge was still in progress, the SLN said.
Reportedly, the SLN has recovered six bodies while several others have been hospitalized.
Navy’s rescue teams are continuing their search operation, the SLN added.
