SLCG holds coordinating meetings on Drug trafficking
November 27, 2021Delegations of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Bangladesh recently visited Coast Guard Headquarters (CGHQ) Mirissa with a view of holding a coordination meeting on the issue of drug trafficking at sea in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
The UNODC delegation was led by Mr. Alan Cole, head of the Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP) and Bangladesh delegation by Mr. GSM Jafar Ullah, Additional Secretary, Public Security Division, Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA).
The discussion mainly focused on establishing cooperation between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to counter drug trafficking at sea, the SLCG said.
Furthermore, it was also discussed the importance of sharing information, establishing a point of contact (POC), the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two countries and sharing of best practices, the SLCG also said.
Accordingly, the UNODC agreed to facilitate future cooperation in operations against maritime drug trafficking.
