SLCG receives a donation of Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat
November 29, 2021Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) received a donation of Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat (RHIB) from the Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP) of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) during a brief ceremony organized at the Advanced Training Centre, Coast Guard Headquarters in Mirissa recently (26).
Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka His Excellency Mizukoshi Hideaki was also present at the event.
SLCG Director General Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake officially took over the RHIB from the Head of the GMCP of UNODC Alan Cole during the occasion, the SLCG said.
According to SLCG, the 8.5 metre long RHIB which is fitted with two 200 hp outboard motors and worth over 190,000 USD has been designed to carry 10 crew members at a time.
It is also capable of operating at a maximum speed of 45 knots with an endurance of 30 nautical miles.
A cordial discussion was held between Rear Admiral Ekanayake and the Japanese Ambassador during the session.
SLCG Deputy Director General Commodore Janaka Nissanka and Japanese Embassy Counsellor Kawakami Takayuki were also present at the discussion, the SLCG added.
