SLN improves facilities in two Hambantota schools
November 30, 2021Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) continuing its school development project mooted in parallel with its 70th anniversary vested in students of Athbatuwa Junior School in Hungama and Veeriyagama Maha Vidyalaya in Sooriyawewa with improved facilities yesterday (29).
Accordingly, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne declared open the newly expanded facilities of the two schools by gracing respective opening ceremonies at the school premises.
New classroom buildings, teachers’ restroom and landscaping arrangements were also among the expanded facilities of both schools the SLN sources said.
The Southern Naval Command has provided labour expertise for the noble project which was also funded by Naval personnel, the SLN said.
In addition school supplies for 50 students were gifted during the occasion under the patronage of President, SLN Seva Vanitha Unit Chandima Ulugetenne.
According to the Navy, project was mooted to enhance facilities of eight resource-poor schools in each naval command in parallel with SLN’s anniversary came to a successful end yesterday.
The handing over events were held adhering to COVID-19 pandemic prevention protocols, the SLN also confirmed.
Commander Southern Naval Area Rear Admiral Prasanna Hewage, Principals of the two schools, Hambantota Zonal Education Director, teachers, students and senior Navy offices were also present at the occasions.
