Soldiers avert tank bund breach in Mullaithivu
November 30, 2021A group of Army soldiers in the North were rushed to take preventive measures to stop a breach at the Semmamoddai tank in Mullaithivu recently.
According to Army media, soldiers of 5 (V) Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) troops of the 661 Brigade of the 66 Division, based in Pallikuda, Pooneryn under Security Force HQ – Mullaithivu had taken up the task to place sandbags on the tank bunk after water started seeping from a split in the bund.
Troops, guided by officers of the Department of Irrigation had stacked sand bags on the tank bund to prevent further erosion of the bund and avert a possible disaster.
Inclement weather had caused unprecedented rainfall in many parts of the country resulting in floods and landslides. Water levels of lakes and reservoirs have reached spill level while most rivers and waterways have swelled leading to flooding in low lying areas.
Disaster management authorities assisted by tri forces personnel are on alert to face any eventualities during this freak weather situation.
