President graces Navy Passing Out ceremony
June 23, 2019President Maithripala Sirisena graced a Passing Out ceremony of the Sri Lanka Navy at the prestigious Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) in Trincomalee, on Saturday (22 June 2019). The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence General SHS Kottegoda (Rtd) WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc was also present at the occasion.
The President was received by the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva upon his arrival at the Navy's premier seat of learning at the Eastern port city of Trincomalee. The President was given a Guard of Honour by Naval personnel.
The colourful Passing Out ceremony held last evening keeping with long held naval traditions and customs saw 89 Midshipmen belonging the 32nd (Technical) and 33rd Intakes of the Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) and 59th Cadet Entry Intake receive their Commissions from the chief guest. The newly commissioned officers include 19 officers from the 32nd KDU Intake (Technical), 44 officers from the 33rd KDU Intake and 26 officers from the 59th Cadet Entry Intake.
The President presented awards to selected Midshipmen for their exceptional performance during training.
Religious dignitaries, Governor of the Northern Province, Commander of the Air Force, IG, Senior tri forces and police officers, senior state officials, Commandant of the NMA, family members of the passing out OFFICERS and a large number of naval personnel were also present at the occasion.
