Navy apprehends foreign fishing vessel with about 250 kilos of drugs in international waters
December 11, 2021Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) during a special raid nabbed a large consignment of drugs along with six foreign suspects onboard a foreign fishing vessel in the International waters.
According to Navy sources, the operation was carried out after several days of continuous surveillance in the international waters about 900 nautical miles (about 1665km) south of Sri Lanka, the SLN with the assistance of Police Narcotic Bureau, based on information received.
The vessel and the foreign suspects are being escorted ashore by a Navy ship as of now, the SLN further said.
It reveals that the 225 packets of narcotics, contained in nine sacks, weigh over 250 kilos.
The vessel will be brought ashore by SLN in the next few days along with the suspects and will be handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau for further action, the news added.
