Navy sails to victory at National Sailing Championship - 2021
December 15, 2021Proving their superiority in the sailing arena the Sri Lanka Navy Sailing Club clinched the National Sailing Championship - 2021 title. According to Navy media, the championship event organized by the Yachting Association of Sri Lanka (YASL) and the National Olympic Committee (NOC) was held at the Bolgoda lake recently (Dec 10 & 11).
The Bluejackets won all three places in the Laser Standard class and Enterprise class. They also won the first two places in the Laser Radial and GP 14 class while securing the first place in the RS One Windsurfing class, it states.
These top performances took the Navy Sailing Club to the helm of the rankings making them the overall champions in National Sailing Championship 2021, the news states.
Coached by veteran sailor and former national champion Mr. Krishan Janaka the Navy Sailing Club took raised their sails the serene waters of the picturesque Bolgoda lake along with sailing boats representing Ceylon Motor Yachting Club (CMYC), Royal Colombo Yachting Club (RCYC), St Thomas' College Sailing Club, Royal College Sailing Club and Bentota Windsurfing Club. The competition saw 97 boats fighting for the coveted titles, it says.
The event was held with the participation of the Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, Mr. Suresh Subramanium, YASL officials and sailing club representatives, it further states.
