Head of JICA and DG Coast Guard met on-board
December 16, 2021Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Sri Lanka Yamada Tetsuga met the Director General of Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) Rear Admiral Anura Ekanayake at the SLCG Ship Samudra Raksha recently (Dec 14).
Expressing their gratitude for facilitating the meeting, the head of JICA had expressed the willingness to further enhance cooperation including assistance for SLCG and other law enforcing agencies to deter illegal activities, environmental protection, search and rescue and maritime law enforcement training, the SLCG said.
Rear Admiral Ekanayake while thanking JICA has mentioned their training and infrastructure assistance extended for SLCG’s capacity improvement.
Rear Admiral Ekanayake mentioning the contribution of SLCG ships (especially donated by JICA) during recent maritime disasters, has indicated the proposed expansion to acquire high endurance pollution control ship with external fire-fighting capabilities, the SLCG sources also said.
Matters under discussion also included the conducting of training under new normal situation, the news added.
DG SLCG handed over a memento to the visiting high official in appreciation of the assistances extended by JICA.
