Army Officer Career Development Centre renamed as ‘Army War College
December 18, 2021Sri Lanka Army’s Officer Career Development Centre (OCDC) in Buttala has been renamed as the 'Army War College'.
According to Army media, adding a new chapter to the Army academia the former OCDC was inaugurated as the ‘Army War College’ during a ceremony graced by the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva on Friday (Dec 17).
The OCDC was established in January 2012. A total number of 2148 student officers, including 44 foreigners, two officers from Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force have graduated as professionally qualified officers from this seat of learning since its inception on 23 January 2012, it says.
The Army Commander symbolically marked the inauguration by unveiling the Army War College plaque at the main auditorium premises. The newly-constructed 'Twin Model Room' was also declared open during the ceremony, it says.
The vision of the Army War College is to reach excellence in education and educate officers towards the achievement of military professionalism and develop competent and skillful professional military leaders with strategic insight to address security and defence challenges of the state.
Senior Army officers including Commandant of the OCDC Major General Swarna Bothota were present at the occasion.
