Troops to build new house for deserving family

Work on a new house for a needy civilian family in the Wanni region, constructed under the Corporate Social Responsibility Project of the Army commenced on Thursday (08 August). According to Army media, the foundation laying ceremony for the proposed new house took place last week at Mahasenpura in Urawa.

The house will be the eleventh to be built under the CSR project of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W). The underprivileged family of N.G Karunarathne living in the rural interior village in Vavunia will be the beneficiariy of the new house proposed to be constructed with financial support from an Australia based expatriate.

A large number of families have benefitted from the public welfare initiatives mooted by the troops with the intention to uplift the living standards of the backward communities, especially in the Northern region.

Senior Army and state officials and a large number of civilians were present at the foundation laying ceremony for the new house, last week.
